There are worries that the Government’s adjustments to tenancy regulations might not have an impact on rental prices. A proposed Bill set to be introduced to Parliament aims to reinstate 90-day no-cause terminations for periodic tenancies, a provision that was removed by the Labour government last term.
Housing Minister Chris Bishop is optimistic that this change will lead to a decrease in rents. However, Mike Atkinson, the managing director of Aspire Property Management, shared with Mike Hosking that the government overlooked the removal of deductibility, which would have had a more immediate effect. According to Atkinson, landlords haven’t been discussing the necessity of 90-day notices, suggesting it may not be urgently required at the moment.
