Mike Hosking talks to Aspire about the new tenancy bill on the Early Edition, Newstalk ZB

There are worries that the Government’s adjustments to tenancy regulations might not have an impact on rental prices. A proposed Bill set to be introduced to Parliament aims to reinstate 90-day no-cause terminations for periodic tenancies, a provision that was removed by the Labour government last term.

Housing Minister Chris Bishop is optimistic that this change will lead to a decrease in rents. However, Mike Atkinson, the managing director of Aspire Property Management, shared with Mike Hosking that the government overlooked the removal of deductibility, which would have had a more immediate effect. According to Atkinson, landlords haven’t been discussing the necessity of 90-day notices, suggesting it may not be urgently required at the moment.
